A cookie contest for the young … and young at heart … Sunday, Dec. 14 at 1 p.m. at First Congregational Church in Billerica. Bring 2 dozen of your favorite, homemade cookies and an ingredient list. $5 entry fee. How about buying an alternative gift for a friend or relative who has everything and would appreciate blessing someone in need? The true meaning of an alternative Christmas gift is to make a donation to an organization in place of buying a gift. It’s not meant to be on top of what you already buy, but the donation would be “in place of” what you would buy.
